Time Limit Rules

The Minneapolis Marathon and Half Marathon courses follow strict time limit rules with the City of Minneapolis.  Please see below how that could affect you and your race.

Marathon and Relay Distance:

The Marathon course route re-opens to traffic according to a 6 hour marathon pace or (13:44 minutes per mile). The marathon finish line will officially close at 12:30 p.m. The time limit rules will be strictly enforced, so if you need clarification before registering, please contact us.

  • There will be a pace leader walking a 6 hour, marathon pace (13:44 minutes/mile) if you or your relay team falls behind that pace or if you come by the finish line after 9:30 a.m., you will either be asked to get on the SAG wagon, finish the half marathon or we will ask  you to hand over your bib number and your race is finished.
  • Any marathoner who instead completes the half marathon, will receive finish line amenities (food, water, half marathon medal) but will not be listed in the official results and will not be eligible for awards
  • Any marathoner, who does not complete the marathon within the time limit, will not receive a medal or finishing time
  • 12:30 p.m. Finish Area will close and race is finished
Half Marathon Distance
  • There will be a pace leader for the 3:30 cut off time for the half marathon.  This is a pace of 16:00 minutes/mile.  If  you fall behind that pace  you will either be asked to get on the SAG wagon or to hand over your bib number and your race is finished.
  • Any half marathoner who does not complete the half marathon within the time limit will  not receive a medal or finishing time.
Team Ortho Foundation will do its best to accommodate all finishers but  our organization will have to open the road at a certain time which is why we have established these guidelines.
