Thank you for your interest in volunteering. We believe that you will find the opportunity very rewarding as you help others achieve their goals. Please carefully review the volunteer descriptions and note any required qualifications for the area you wish to volunteer. Then fill out the registration form!
For Team Ortho Foundation Volunteers it's your lucky day! We are excited to introduce some new volunteer opportunities for our Get Lucky 7K race.
This race filled up fast and registration is currently closed. This volunteer opportunity is a great way to still get involved. We promise it will be both exciting and energizing to all those who come ready.
We are offering a new incentive to volunteers at this race. Any volunteer who commits and works a total of 5 hours will receive a promotional Get Lucky sweatshirt valued at over $40 dollars. Any hours volunteered after the first 5 will go toward our Bones Incentive Program. Any volunteers who commit and volunteer for less than 5 hours will not receive the sweatshirt but will still receive bones.
We also have a volunteer recognition party on the schedule. The party will be March 31st, 2010 at Kieran's Irish Pub in their new Block E location. So, volunteers, mark your calendars! We promise it will be a good time!

Saturday, March 20, 2010 -- Get Lucky Race Day!
Race Day Volunteer Opportunities
Set-Up Crew
5:30 – 9:30 a.m. (4 hours)
*Anyone who wants to race and volunteer on race day should sign up for set-up crew
If you are an early morning person and don’t mind getting your hands dirty this might be the volunteer opportunity for you. Volunteers for the Set Up Crew will assist the race director in setting up tables, tents, banners, cones, and other equipment associated with a certified race course. This position will require heavy lifting and in some situations problem solving. We know that this type of volunteering is more physically demanding than other opportunities, but the time goes so fast when you see how much people depend on a good set up for the success of a race.
Registration Crew Opportunities are Filled!
7:30 - 12:30 p.m. (5 hours)
If you are a good communicator and work well with others this is your volunteer opportunity. Registration volunteers can expect to work one-on-one with the individual racers as they come in to pick up their race numbers, packets, and promotional gear for participation. Some of the runners may also be in need of registering for the race that same day. This whole process happens in a very short amount of time prior to the actual start of the race. Most volunteers who have helped in the past with registration will attest to the fact that the excitement that fills the room as runners anxiously anticipate the competition is energizing and a lot of fun to experience. After the race starts we will also need these volunteers to help with clean up and distribution of more promotional products after the race.
Informational Greeters
7:30 - 12:30 p.m. (5 hours) & 9 – 2 p.m. (5 hours)
On race day we will have a designated booth where runners, volunteers, and spectators can get answers to their many questions. This booth will have course maps, directions, parking information, lost and found, and any other miscellaneous information needed. It will also serve as the check –in spot for all race day volunteers. A person who communicates well and has worked at a Team Ortho race in the past would be a great candidate for one of these volunteer opportunities.
Photographer/Volunteer Coordinator Assistant Opportunities are Filled!
9 - 2 p.m. (5 hours) & 8 – 1 p.m. (5 hours)
If you are someone who has an eye for good picture opportunities and is willing to help in other various ways, we would love your talents as a volunteer. We are looking for some great candid shots to use for our own promotional pieces. The photographer would have to be willing to give up the rights to the pictures to Team Ortho following the race. We would also like to utilize this role in a unique way – we are looking for this position to work closely with the volunteer coordinator and act as an assistant to help accompany surprise needs that come up on race day. We are not looking for a professional photographer just someone interested in taking some candid shots of our race. A camera will be provided if you don’t have one that you are more comfortable using.
Bag Check
8:30 - 12:30 p.m. (4 hours)
As runners prepare to compete in the race, many of them need a place to store their personal belongings and additional clothing not needed for the race. As a courtesy to our runners, we will offer them a place to check their belongings for the duration of the race. Volunteers will need to collect items into bags for the runners, attach designated race numbers for security reasons, sort the bags in preparation for pick up, and than be ready to redistribute the proper items back in a timely manner following the race.
Team Ortho Store/Merchandise Pick-up
8:30 - 1:30 p.m. (5 hours)
Before, during, and after the race we want to provide runners, fans, and spectators a place to purchase memorabilia and gear. We need volunteers to help us run the store by collecting money, bagging merchandise and offering suggestions and information to customers that want to purchase. We will also be using this location as a secondary pick up location for promotional gear. Runners who have registered for our series events or other races and did not receive their gear will be able to find what they need and see available sizes and colors.
Water Stops
8:30 - 11:30 p.m. (3 hours) & 8:30 - 1:30 p.m. (5 hours)
*This is a great group volunteer opportunity
Volunteers who want to the opportunity to cheer on and assist the athletes first hand will like the excitement and energy of volunteering at water stops. In this race we will be offering two water stops. Volunteers will assist in set up, filling, handing out cups, and cleaning up as runners whoosh buy in a very short amount of time. This is another opportunity where things happen quickly and we will need all hands on deck for short amount of time. If water stop volunteers are willing to extend their shift a couple more hours we could also use help with tear-down of the course and would report to the race director for additional duties.
Food Tent/Start & Finish Water Stop
8:30 - 1:30 p.m. (5 hours)
We provide runners with water before and after the race to help them hydrate and re-hydrate after the race. We also provide some quick energy foods to help them recharge after competing. We need volunteers set up, tear down, and manage these areas during the race times. It is a steady flow of moving and replenishing. Because this is one of the last volunteer areas during the race we are also asking if volunteers who work at this station would be willing to flex out as time allows to help us with race tear down. In addition to working at this station you would also be reporting to the race director to help with other various tasks.
Medals & Bus Directors
9 – 2 p.m. (5 hours)
At the end of each of our races we offer athletes who finish a participation medal. Each runner should receive their medal immediately after completing the race. We are looking for volunteers to help distribute the medals to runners as well as offer them words of encouragement for a job well done. This is one of the most exciting areas in which to volunteer because you get to experience first-hand, all the emotion that goes into finishing a race. Because this area only needs a large amount of volunteers for short amount of time as well we are also looking for people willing to help us direct racers to the buses for the after party as well as a group to help us with teardown.
Course Marshals
8:30 - 11:30 p.m. (3 hours)
The primary role is to "Point" the runners in the proper direction and to ensure athletes stay on the designated race course. You will be stationed at a turn, corner, or intersection along the run course to help direct the athletes to stay on the run course. Major intersections will have police support to direct vehicular traffic.
Cyclists & Timers
8:30 - 11:30 p.m. (3 hours)
We are looking for someone willing to lead the course on a bike as well as someone to follow the runners to ensure that everyone has safely completed the course before tear down and streets re-open. We are also looking for those volunteers who are willing to aid us in implementing the chip-timing system.
Medical Assistants Opportunities are Filled!
8:30 - 11:30 p.m. (3 hours)
Medical assistants will be positioned on the course and at the end. The assistant will help the medical personal with tasks such as registering athletes, keeping medical supplies stocked, and any other logistical support needed. You do not need a medical license to volunteer as an assistant.
Clean-Up Crew
10:00 - 3:00 p.m. (5 hours)
We are looking for some dedicated volunteers to help us tear everything down. This group may also be asked to help us sweep the course as the last few runners finish. Cleaning up is always lots of fun!
