Inspired to Get Active E-mail

Team Ortho Foundation is all about offering great races to encourage people to get out and get active.  From our Monster Series which challenges runners throughout the year to a 5K race which could be a new runner's first goal.  We're proud to offer these events to EVERY BODY.

Sometimes it takes some inspiration to get us motivated, and other times our motivation inspires others.  Either way, we invite you to enjoy this part of our website which celebrates people inspired by running, walking, activity and volunteering.  Because without all of you, we wouldn't be here.  So please read the profiles, watch the videos, and peruse the pictures.

If you have a great story to tell about your running journey or a great time you had at a Team Ortho Foundation Race, please contact us and click on "general questions".  Provide a quick few sentences describing your inspiring story and someone with Team Ortho will get back to you.

First Team Ortho Race: Polar Dash 2010 (completed in Iraq)

We are honored to have Sergeant Brandon Beyer as a member of Team Ortho. Sgt. Beyer signed up for the 2010 Monster Marathon Series, even though the plan is for him to do most of his events in Iraq!

Sgt. Beyer is originally from Stillwater, Minnesota and when he’s stateside, he is an Army Reservist stationed out of Rock Island Arsenal, in Rock Island, Illinois. But right now he’s serving with the 402nd Army Field Support Brigade in Iraq until December of 2010. Sgt. Beyer contacted Team Ortho executive director John Larson in December of 2009, asking if it would be at all possible for he and a few of his buddies to sign up for the series and do it from their base in Iraq.

First Team Ortho Race: Monster Half Marathon

For Jason Benson, of St. Paul, 2009 was a life-changing year. He started running in the spring and did his first race ever with Team Ortho Foundation – the Monster Half Marathon on Halloween, 2009.

It has been a journey for Jason to get to this point in his running lifestyle. In 2006 he lost functionality of his right lung and had been about 50 pounds overweight ever since. But his attitude toward exercise started to change when his brother-in-law died of lung cancer, leaving his wife and two children behind. Jason didn't want this to happen to him. "In many ways, Greg gave me a gift,

Favorite Team Ortho Event: Minneapolis Marathon, Monster Half Marathon (close second)

Willie Tibbetts is a wife, mother and full-time employee—and she would definitely add runner to that description. She credits Team Ortho with helping her bring back her passion for running and the camaraderie that goes with it. “Regardless of what kind of day I’m having, it’s always better after a run,” Willie says.

Willie began running in high school and college. Injuries caused her to take a break, but she has since made a comeback, “I wanted to be a good role model for my daughter.” One of the first events she did with Team Ortho was the 100% Irish for a Day race. She became Facebook Friends with John Larson, Team Ortho’s Executive Director, and she was hooked. “It was like being on a team again.”

A Connection with Team Ortho

She describes Team Ortho as having a special and more personal relationship with its runners. This spring Willie was part of the free marathon training group organized by Caleb Olsen, Director of Operations and
