Course Information & Maps

The Minneapolis Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay have beautiful courses that travel along the Mississippi River starting in downtown Minneapolis.  We want to give you enough detail to make sure you know the most you can about the race before you get to the start line.  Please keep in mind this information could be updated at any time and you should check back frequently.

Elevation Map 

  • Start time: 6:30am 
  • Race Starts at Theodore Wirth Parkway, just north of Highway 55.  See Map
  • The Minneapolis Marathon is a USATF Certified Course and Boston Qualifier
  • Chip Timing
  • 12:30 p.m. West River Parkway will open for cars at this time.  Runners will move onto the path until 12:45 when the race is complete and the finish line closes.
  • Mile Markers will be along all of the courses at each mile.
  • No strollers or dogs allowed
  • There is a 6-hour time limit.  See the time-limit rules.
  • 18 water stops including start and finish.  Powerade at every water stop. Hammer Gel at miles 11, 18, 21. Port-a-potties at all water stops.

  • Chip Timing
  • Half Marathon Course is USATF certified and will be open for 3 hours and 30 minutes. This is a 16:00 minute/per mile pace.  See Time Limit Rules.
  • No strollers or dogs allowed
  • Mile Markers will be along all of the courses at each mile.
  • Half Marathon is Walker Friendly but must keep at least a 16:00 min/mile pace.

Specific relay info on what to expect and where the exchange zones are, click here.

  • Start Time: 6:30am 
  • Race Starts at Theodore Wirth Parkway, just north of Highway 55.  See Map
  • Choose your relay team: 2, 3, or 4 participants!
  • Must do the handoffs and transfer of timing chip and strap to left ankle at official exchange areas.
  • Approximate Distances: 1st. Leg: 8.2 miles, 2nd Leg: 5.1 miles, 3rd Leg: 5.9 miles, 4th Leg: 7 miles (please note course map shows exchange zone #1 as being at Mile 7.9, according to USATF certification it will be closer to 8.2. Please keep that in mind when running on race day)
  • Chip Timing - team shares a single timing chip.
  • There is a 6-hour time limit. Relay runners must keep a 13:44 minute/mile pace to finish the race.   See the time-limit rules
  • At 12:30 p.m. West River Parkway will reopen to motorized vehicles.   Runners will move onto the path until 12:45 when the race is complete and the finish line at Bohemian Flats Park closes. 
  • Mile Markers will be along all of the courses at each mile.

The Start Line

The start line for the Minneapolis Marathon, Half Marathon and Relay is located on Theodore Wirth Parkway, just north of Highway 55.  Start Line Athlete Village and pre-paid reserved parking is located in the MA Mortenson Parking Lot located at 700 Meadow Lane North, Minneapolis, MN 55422  Click here for an aerial view of the Start Line Athlete Village and Start Corral 

The Finish Line
After you cross the finish line, where your time is automatically recorded, proceed through the finisher’s chute. Volunteers will present you with your finisher Medal. After you finish, you will be directed to the refreshment and bag check areas. Not Finishing

If you are unable to finish the race, please stop at the nearest aid station or intersection with a Course Marshal Volunteer for assistance and direction. Transportation will be available to the finish line.
